When choosing office desk furniture, the first consideration is where it will be placed. Some people like to have their desk facing the wall, where others prefer to face the door to see the comings and goings. Once you have decided on the position, you will need to measure the space available.

Office desks come in three basic shapes, rectangular, bow front and L-shaped. A rectangular shape can fit easily in to a corner of the room, and provides a large surface for working on. A bow front takes up a similar amount of floor space as the rectangular shape, but has a rounded front, providing more work space.

The L-shaped desk has two parts, the main rectangular shape, with an extra arm coming out perpendicular to that. This is great for dividing up the work space. One part can be used for the computer, while the extra arm can be used for spreading out, or sitting around to discuss ideas with work colleagues.

This shape also allows plenty of room for drawers, so is great if you need a lot of storage space, and fits neatly in to a corner of the room.
