Home decor rugs need some care to keep them looking good, and to prevent build up of dust. When living in a humid climate like Bali, you will need to take extra care. Traditionally, rugs are beaten with a stick to get the dust out, and this method is easy to do in Bali, where the weather is always fine.

Simply hang the rug outside, and beat it on both sides. Once beaten, the rug can be left out in the fresh air. A vacuum cleaner is the more modern way of keeping rugs clean, but these can have a very strong sucking mechanism, that may be too harsh for a delicate rug. Tassels can become caught up and damaged in a vacuum cleaner hose.

Stains can be soaked up with a cloth, and should never be rubbed. For wine stains, sprinkle salt over the stain and leave it for a while, so that it can absorb the liquid. A damp cloth can then be used to gently wipe it away.
